Video Game Derby Round 3

I finally feel I've gotten the hang of where I'm going with this. Which means if I get to a second video game derby It'll actully flow better XD In the meantime, here's this week's events.

Also, it never really occured to me before, but we might get multiple winners. The the last game that makes it to the end will win, that's a given, but any game I finish before that time will also become a winner. Perhaps at the end I'll rank the winners as well? Well, if that becomes an issue.

On with the games!

Digimon Adventure

This week's chapter was Mimi. Although, due to the way the stroy worked, I wound up playing three chapters to finish it. Mimi's was split in half with a mini TK chapter in the middle.

The first chapter is pretty cut and dry and there isn't much story to it. The group of kids are in the tunnal from before and they are trying to get to the other side. The tunnal is full of digimon so you either have to fight them or run-by quickly. The tunnel has a few dead ends, but I got some character events in them so It didn't feel like a waste. For one, Mimi leant TK her handkerchief when he got some Numamon slime on him. The group make it out and that chapter ends.

In TK's mini chapter you have to go back into the tunnel to find his missing badge. You talk to a few Numamon as you run along the tunnel, and you find out that, well, 1) Numamon like listioning to toliets flushing, and 2) their mega-numamon boss has TK's badge. The badge in question is of soft severed vanilla ice-cream, TK's favorite and a gift from his dad. The boss Numamon wanted to keep it because it was extra-special "Lucky white poop". The group beats it and you get TK's badge back, along with some extra items from boss Numamon.

We pick up Mimi's chapter again and she's thirsty. She specially makes a big deal about wanted a Cola. They happen upon an array of vendingmachines sitting in a field and Mimi dosen't stop until she finds one with Cola in it. There's a character event along the way and Mimi agrees to split half her drink with TK, and makes fun of Joe for liking Oolong tea more then Cola. She evently finds her vending machine and a Numamon pops out asking her on a date. Palmon momentarly wounders why the Numamon act like playboys around Mimi, before Mimi tells him no way in hell. The Numamon is outraged and the group finds themselves surrounded by Numamon. The split and run in different directions, so that they can each fight a smaller group. Once they're a good ways out, Palmon turns to fight the Numamon but a giant earthquake spooks them and sends them running. Mimi is ecstatic and praises Palmon, but Palmon is just confused at what made them run. From behind a rock a Numamon tells Mimi to hide quickly. Her and Palmon jump behind the rock as Monzemon, a giant Teddy bear comes through yelling that he wants to play with everyone. Mimi say's he seems like a good guy but the Numamon tells her he's been acting strangly as of late. The Monzemon runs off and after a bit Mimi notices that everyone else (the other kids) are missing. She's told that Monzemon probably took them to Toyland, and the Numamon promply asks her an another date. Mimi dosn't wait a moment to turn him down and run off to Toyland. There we find the souless kids talking about how much fun they're having, but sounding rather drugged and not moving from their spots. Their digimon partners are also missing. Eventully, Monzemon catches up to Mimi and Palmon, but right before he... does what ever he did to the others, the Numamon show up and start pelting Monzemon with poop. Palmon is impressed that the disgusting, cowardly Numamon are fighting so hard to protect Mimi and feels she needs to do the same. She then digivolves (sorry, forgot the name >_<) and defeats Monzemon in combat as a giant cactus. Post battle Palmon turns back and Mimi squeezes her in a too tight hug, that Palmon says is kind of painful. The dark gear in Monzemon comes out, he becomes apologetic, the kids go back to normal, and the captured digimon are freed. Mimi still refuses to go on a date with Numamon.

When describing Palmon and Mimi's relationship I'd call Mimi the bright-eyed leader and Palmon the level headed follower. I want to say that it's kind of the opposite of Sora and Biyomon. Palmon isn't showering Mimi with love the way Biyomon did, but Mimi doesn't need to be. She's the one who dotes on Palmon and Palmon, in turn, is loyal and looks out for Mimi. Unlike Sora and Biyomon as well, who's story was about Sora accepting Biyomon's way of showing affection, Palmon and Mimi seem to feel a mutual understanding from the get go. The more reserved and down-to-earth Palmon just had to feel it was time to step up to the plate to digivolve (maybe a bit of jealousy that the Numamon where doing more to protect Mimi then she was?) and she did it, without either her or Mimi really growing from it. I like this team as a casualy comfortable duo, so I think it makes them similar to Tai and Agumon.

As far as the extra 3rd world that I mentioned last week goes, it's more or less just a training ground. Nice to have, but I ran through it and there's no story to be found.

This week again, Digimon ranks green.

Digimon Story: Lost Evolution

I did not accomplish anything but running around the map leveling. When I finally did run into the story after getting completly lost I just turned off the power because I didn't feel up to fighting with the story anymore.

Last week I said I hoped this game would improve. This week it ranks red. Yes, this game, which started as a green, has now gone down to the point I'm dreading playing it. I like to think that it would be a better game if I were already fluent in Japanese, but as stands the translating process is annoying. I run around the map until I bump into the plot, and then I suddenly have to translate some completly random amount. Sometimes I fill two cards, sometimes I reach my cap before we're done. I just don't want to do this one anymore.

Ouran High School Host Club

Haruhi and Tamaki finish stalking Majima-Kun (finally remembered Sayuri's crush's name) and return to the club room. The business offically ends for the day and the club gathers to compare strategies, with Sayuri to pick the one she likes the best. The twins are about to go first when Sayuri suddenly interupts them. She asks the host club to please forget about the matter. When Haruhi asks why, then Sayuri admits that she's afraid of being rejected. Haruhi, Tamaki, and Kyoya convince her that it's better to confess now then to miss her chance and always wounder "what if". Sayuri evently regains her composer and agrees to go on with it, this time with a smile. Tamaki then dims the lights, gives a speech, and when the lights came back a confused looking Majima-kun is standing in the middle of the room. It's never explained exaclty what happened there. Majima, still a little confused, tries to explain that he thought the injured puppy he found should be examined and I think (?) he wants Sayuri to examine it. Sayuri says there's something she wants to say first, Tamaki nudges her to confess, and she starts to step forward, but Majima steps in front of her. He then confesses to her. It turns out that he liked her since about the time she liked him, and was happy when she transfered to his school, but was so busy with the dog he wasn't able to confess to her earlier.

Sayuri is so happy that she hugs Haruhi. Since it looks like she's huging another boy the host club is quick to explain that the two are childhood friends and Majima-kun is fine with it aftter that. A little after that it is reviled that Majima isn't transfering to America anymore since there's no point. He was going to transfter to Sayuri's school to confess, but since she came to his... At that point the club decides that they are a well-match couple.... and that Haruhi doesn't get her debt reduced because the two people didn't need any help from the club in the first place. Haruhi is fine with that however because she's happy to see her friend get a happy ending.

I finished the day and it looks like a new chapter will start in the next post!

This week it ranks firm green.

Character of the week

Ootori Kyouya 鳳 鏡夜

2nd Year, Group A

The host club's vice president. He's an intellectual who's always making complex plans, but the truth is he has low blood pressure, and when he wakes up his mood is the worst. He runs the financial part of the club.

Starry Sky In Spring

Ok, I'm going to try using their names today! XD

Post-fight you get to talk to one of the three guys, and as I said I would I'm following Yoh... or You... or Yo, or Capricorn, or the Red Haired Frenchman, the transfer sudent, Hitsuji(Sheep), what have you. That guy.

You comment that Yoh-kun was unexpetently good in a fight to stand up against Kanata, (Pisces) the school's number one fighter. Yoh-kun reveals that people often think he'e weak because of his light build, so he was often picked on when he was younger. For that reason he trained very hard so he could fight well. Now he's pretty confident in his ability, but people still tend to think he's easy pickings due to his apperance. He goes on to say that after the fight he respects Kanata more. When you try to tell him not to fight Yoh-kun won't have it and stats teasing you, saying if Kanata "comes selling a fight" then he "won't hesitate to buy it" and then that when you pout it makes him reeeealy want to poke your cheeks.

Suzuya tells everyone if they don't hurry and eat lunch, you'll finish it off. You and Kanata say how good it looks, and Yoh-kun says he dosen't know much about Japanes food. It seems that the way lunch works is Suzuya makes several different lunches and each person in the group picks one at random. Yoh-kun is allowed to go first and gets something with chocolate it in. Kanata starts to make fun of him, but Yoh is very happy and says he loves chocolate. Kanata seems a bit crestfallen that his jab was completly ineffective.

Character of the week:

Nanami Kanata 七海 哉太

2nd year

Astronomy Department

Blood Type: B

Zodiac:Pisces

Height: 175cm

Weight: 55KG

"The strength having gotten furiously is very frail.

The frailty I want to get rid of dosen't go away.

I rise up again,

because of your existence"

He's a Seigetsu Academy 2nd year student.

He and Toutsuki are the main character's childhood friends.

He has a shot temper and is quick to get in a fight, but because of an incurable disease he has had since childhood, the limit to his stamina is 3 minutes.

He has a complex about his weak body.

This week it ranks yellow. I feel like the last few weeks I was ranking things a little softly. If I'd continued the way I'd been doing this it would have ranked green before, but honestly it more closly fits the set level of "I could play more, or I could go on to something else", so yellow it is.

Detective Conan

Conan talks a bit more with his friends and Conan says they should go to Detective Mori's office to look for clues. The other kids are reluctant because Detective Mori is scary, so it's decided that Conan should go by himself and tell them what he finds. Conan is perfectly fine with this, but one of the kids gets upset, "We're the detective boys! We should all be working!"

And with that the kids decide they'll help by going to Dr.Agasa's house and watching Onimaru the TV program to look for clues inside the show. Meanwhile, Dr.Agasa gives Conan his new invention, a Two-way telephone, computer thing. More or less a smart phone, but with extra anime-omni-technology bits added, while looking more old fashioned. His new toy in tow, Conan sets out to Detective Mori's place by himself.

This week it ranks yellow. Curious about what'll happen, but not edge of my seat or anything.

Hetalia

I'm really starting to get into this quicky story set up. It really lets me just spend exactly as much time as I want to The exact opposite of Digimon Story. X( The new vocabulary is also coming in smaller amounts, so here I'm actully filling up flash-cards faster, because I often only need them for one word. Also, I know I'm constently misspelling Seychelles's name, so I'm shortening it to Sey from now on.

>Lichtenstain

First girl event I got. I wounder if it was opened up because of the Russia even right before it? Afterwards I noticed a Switzerland event as well so maybe that's how it works. No affection points were added, just to clarify XD

Lichenstain wanted to make desert but couldn't make up her mind. She narrowed it down to three things, two European and one Japanese. I therefor am unfamiler with all of them. Sey offers to help and you get to pick one of the three, Lichenstain then picks one of the remaining two and you two make them together. Lichenstain tells say that when they were younger her brother would sometimes go without eating so she could have food, and how she likes it better nowadays. Sey notices that half of Lichentstain's is missing and she says she's going to give it to her brother. Sey is somewhat touched by the gesture, but is more troubled by the fact that Switzerland is going to eat that much.

>America

Sey is looking for something in the library and America comes by offering to help. Sey says she's looking for a map. Ameirca tells her that if she uses a computer she can put in her start and end point and the computer will tell her the best route. Sey is impressed and America goes on to proudly tell her it was made in his home. He tries to go on with an example saying, "If you put your home adress in..." but when Sey tells him her home is an island he stopes dead in his tracks. He then says, "Well, if you're going to swim, you'll have to play by ear" Sey is rather annoyed/dissapointed by that responce and after America leaves she wounders if computers can really be a useful substitue for maps if they're so limited.

>Germany

Sey is walking down the hall, trying to remember what classes she has that day when suddenly she has no idea what is going on. The screen goes black and she hears Germany yelling, "Whosever ball this is, come get it now!" Italy sheepishly comes forward to claim it and Germany demands he do 100 squats while he reflects on how dangerous it is to play ball inside. About this time Sey relizes that not only does Germany's voice seem to be coming from somewhere around her waist, she also is feeling somewhat disoriented. She realizes with a start that Germany is holding her on his sholder like a peice of luggage. Apparently he pulled her aside right before the ball hit her. Italy apologizes to her and Germany scolds him again. Sey say's she was ok because Germany protected her, and he scolds her for spacing out. "You never know when an enemy might attack!" Sey is somewhat confuses what enemy he's talking about, but thanks him again for saving her. Germany tells Italy one more time to be careful, but Itay thinks its directed at Sey and repeats it cheerfully.

Character of the week: Germany, I've decided I like his background music the best.

Germany/Doitsu ドイツ

A punctual and neat young man. Very strict with rules, he basically loves regulation. He's very helpful and takes on troublesome jobs, like looking after Italy. There's also a rumor that if he drinks beer his personality changes.

This week it ranks green.

End of week rundown

  1. Ouran High School Host Club
  2. Digimon Adventure
  3. Hetalia
  4. Detective Conan
  5. Starry Sky
  6. Digimon Story: Lost Evolution

This week I felt pretty strongly about what color each game fell in, but within the colors the ranking were pretty close. Digimon cleary loses this week with a very low red. Right now Detective conan and Starry Sky are in the most danger. They've been scoring yellowish for quite a while, and now that the major issue games are out of the way, the mediocre are set to start falling out.

Starting this week: Here's the losing games list along with their reasons, sorted by week:

  1. Shin Tenchi - Very high difficutly with grammar and massive amounts of new vocabulary
  2. Ugly Duckly/ Maiden's Love Revolution- Difficulty reading Kanji slowed down translation speed too much
  3. Digimon Story- Actively started to dread playing it do to boredom
